FAQ - Gut IQ® Digestive Enzymes

Why do I need probiotics AND digestive enzymes?

Our goal is for every customer to be totally satisfied with their purchase. If this isn't the case, let us know and we'll do our best to work with you to make it right.

How do digestive enzymes work?

Imagine you eat a burrito. Different digestive enzymes will target different parts of the burrito. Amylases will work on the carbs in the rice and tortilla, proteases will hit the protein in beans and meat, and lipases will act on the fats in the sauce, meat and cheese. Enzymes are highly efficient and very focused. For example, lactase helps break down the lactose in the cheese, but will not work on the bloat-inducing sugars found in the beans--for that you need alpha-galactosidase. To maximize digestion of a delicious meal, you need a wide array of enzymes that can attack all the different substrates and bonds found in the food you eat.*

Are there any side effects?

Our enzymes are safe for human consumption and undergo rigorous regulatory review. Side effects are rare and typical only at the beginning of your digestive enzyme journey as you sort through what works for your body. Some people experience mild cramping, bloating or gas. Starting off at a low dose can minimize any possible side effects. Side effects should clear with regular use, after a tolerance is established.*

Where are your products manufactured?

Our products are manufactured both locally and globally. We carefully select our manufacturing partners to ensure our products are high quality and a fair value.

What if I miss a dose?

Digestive enzymes aid in digestion of food. We recommend you take digestive enzymes just prior to eating, but if you miss a dose, we recommend you take them directly after your meal.*

Are these Digestive Enzymes clean-label?

Extremely. We do not use wheat, eggs, milk, soy, pesticides, chemicals, preservatives, sesame, yeast, fish and shellfish, peanuts or tree nuts in the manufacture of our product. We do, however, proudly use non-GMO, Kosher and Halal-certified ingredients suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

Made in NSF-certified GMP facilities by one of the largest enzyme producer in North America, the ingredients that make up our supplements undergo rigorous quality testing at every step of the process, ensuring you receive the highest quality.

Frequently asked questions

Here is an ongoing list of answers and additional info to the most frequently asked questions we get about Gut IQ® Probiotics. If you can';'t find the answers you're looking for or need additional info don't hesitate to contact us.

Many people react to foods not because the foods are “bad,” but because their body doesn’t have enough of the enzymes needed to break them down. Enzyme levels naturally decline with age, and modern diets offer very few naturally occurring enzymes. This makes it harder to digest common foods—especially nuts, beans, legumes, dairy, and certain plant fibers.

Educational only—not a claim of treatment.

Digestive enzymes are triggered the moment you start eating. Your mouth, stomach, pancreas, and small intestine all release enzymes that help break food into tiny, absorbable nutrients. By accelerating this breakdown, enzymes help unlock more nutrition from what you eat.

Enzyme output can drop for several reasons, including:

  • Aging
  • Poor dietary patterns
  • Low micronutrient intake
  • Alcohol overuse
  • Inactivity
  • Heavy processed-carb intake
  • Overall stress on the pancreas

Educational only—not a claim of treatment.

Humans used to get plenty of enzymes from raw, fresh foods. Today, most foods are cooked, processed, refrigerated, or transported long distances—all of which dramatically reduce natural enzyme content. Supplements simply help restore what our diet no longer reliably provides.

Your body produces fewer enzymes with age, and cooking destroys many of the enzymes naturally found in food. Depending on your diet and digestion, it can be hard to get what you need from food alone. Supplementing helps fill in that gap so meals break down more efficiently.

Yes—most notably cellulase (which helps break down plant fibers) and certain proteases needed for legumes and nuts. This is why many people struggle with beans, starchy plants, and complex fibers. Supplementing provides the enzymes your body doesn’t naturally make.

Gut I.Q. Digestive Enzymes provide a broad spectrum of targeted enzymes that support the breakdown of fats, proteins, carbs, fibers, and hard-to-digest plant compounds—helping meals feel lighter and digestion flow more smoothly.†

Take 1 capsule at the beginning of a meal. For foods you know tend to challenge your digestion, take your capsule with the first bite so enzymes are present as soon as that food hits your system.

Our formula helps replace enzymes your body may be low on, supporting the digestion of:

  • Proteins
  • Carbohydrates
  • Fats
  • Lactose
  • Plant fibers
  • Beans, nuts & legumes

Better breakdown means smoother digestion and improved nutrient availability.†

Our manufacturing partners use multiple enzyme types—including amylases, proteases, lipases, lactase, and specialized enzymes for tough plant fibers. Each enzyme is measured by activity units (not milligrams) because potency depends on how well the enzyme performs, not on its weight.

Many enzyme supplements only work in a narrow pH range. Gut I.Q. uses a broad-spectrum blend designed to remain active from the acidic environment of the stomach to the more alkaline small intestine—supporting digestion through the entire pathway.†

Consult your healthcare provider before use if you are pregnant, nursing, taking medications, or have a medical condition.

The enzyme powder itself is vegan-friendly, but the capsule is made from animal-derived material, so the finished product is not considered vegan.

Yes, Gut I.Q. Digestive Enzymes are dairy-free. However, they are produced in a facility that also handles dairy-containing products.

The formula itself does not contain the “Big 8” allergens (milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, wheat, soy), but it is made in a facility that also processes these ingredients.

Always consult your prescribing practitioner before combining supplements with medications to ensure they align with your medical needs.

It’s best to take Gut I.Q. Digestive Enzymes with food, so the enzymes can actively support the breakdown of your meal and the absorption of its nutrients.

Digestive enzymes help break down your meals so nutrients can be absorbed more easily. Probiotics help support a balanced gut microbiome. Many people use both for more complete gut support—the enzymes help with digestion today, while the probiotic supports long-term microbial balance.
